Going outside of your normal routine can be a challenge. Questions I constantly get are, “What happens when you go out to eat”? “What happens when you’re at a friend’s house”? Or, “What happens during the holidays”? These are all similar in the fact that these are situations where you may feel out of control, or give yourself an excuse not to be in control. My first answer is, “You do not have to put anything in your mouth that you don’t want to”. You are always in control of your eating, or at least you should be. In most restaurants, especially those in California, they are more than willing to accommodate your dietary desires. Salads are readily available, no croutons, no cheese, no dressing, please. Protein is easy to find, but always make sure there is no wheat involved. Some places dip their fish or chicken in flour before grilling. You may have to ask for substitutions but if a restaurant doesn’t allow it, have them leave it off the plate. I recently met family at a breakfast buffet and there wasn’t much for me. Thankfully they had a cook to order omelet station, and there was plenty of smoked salmon. There were no leafy green vegetables in sight, but there was Breakfast Lasagna. You heard it right, Breakfast Lasagna. Now, we can agree this isn’t healthy, right? Then that means that the ingredients used to make it probably aren’t healthy. They’re definitely not paleo, that’s for sure. Just because it’s there doesn’t mean you have to eat it. I’m gearing up for the holidays and looking forward to many paleo meals. It was nice to get back to basics after the long weekend and have a balanced meal. Today, turkey breast tender, baby broccoli, and carrots. Looks a lot better than Breakfast Lasagna.
